A dark day for democracy & for humanity all over the world

The news of the assassination today of Mrs. Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan politician and ex Prime Minister, marks another dark day in history.

Setting aside any considerations of Mrs. Bhutto’s politics or competence, she was a legitimate candidate in the upcoming Pakistan parliamentary elections and like all candidates running for elected office anywhere in the world she should have been afforded a level of respect in keeping with democratic principals.

Mrs. Bhutto paid the ultimate price for standing up for her principals. We can only hope that some good will emerge from this cruel and unnecessary tragedy.

Let’s not forget the other innocent people who also lost their lives today.

Democracy and freedom are treasures with no price tag.
