Junk or treasure?

One of the world’s premier hotels held what was effectively a yard sale today. The London Savoy auctioned off fixtures and fittings ahead of a multi million $ refurbishment program.

The hotel is knee deep in history and tradition, Winston Churchill held war cabinet meetings there. Regular visitors over the years include Queen Elizabeth II, Alfred Hitchcock, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Al Jolson, John Wayne, Bob Dylan and many, many more global celebrities.

I stayed there when we celebrated my daughter’s Duke of Edinburgh Gold award ceremony in 2001. I was also a regular visitor to the famous Savoy Grill, it is one of the best eateries in London and a great venue to do business.

It will be interesting to see how much money is raised, I am sure there will be many standing in line to part with hard cash for a piece of history.
